Our Favorite Fall Songs

If we haven't made it clear lately, we LOVE fall! And we are trying to enjoy this season as much as we can: going to the pumpkin patch, playing with the leaves in the park, cooking and baking using seasonal products, reading books about autumn... Besides all of that, having a 22 month old, we keep looking for ways to keep him entertained that, at the same time, are educational. We have been making crafts, using coloring pages, and, as usual, dancing and singing a lot.

Today we wanted to share these songs and rhymes, English and Spanish, that we have been singing and reciting lately to celebrate this gorgeous season. Enjoy!

Baby games

We all know how important games are for infants and toddlers. So important that, after one of the Little Monkeys' doctor appointments, we were (as usual) sent home with some written instructions. The instructions said to play with the baby games like Patty Cake. Patty whaaaat? Mama Monkey never heard of it and Papa Monkey couldn't quite remember.

That was when we realized we barely knew any baby games in English. Yeah, we knew a lot of songs, but we didn't really play in English. Spanish was covered by Mama Monkey's geekiness. Now, we make sure to play in both languages on daily bases. Not only with the new baby. The toddler still enjoys these games and he has mastered them. 

Spanglish songs

My mom was a teacher before she retired. She always was an excellent, hard-working, caring grade school educator. For quite a few years, she taught preschoolers and young kids. Thus, I grew up surrounded by Spanish kids’ songs, a lot of them! Also my 'abuela', who was a cheerful, loving lady, was singing all day long, kids songs most of the time. She sang beautiful, old songs that my mom and aunts always remember with love and share with the kids in the family.

So, as I was explaining, in my family we know maaany many songs. We know so many that it is pretty odd, I am telling you! When the Little Monkey was born and we started singing for him, Papa Monkey thought we were crazy for knowing so many. Although, I've got to say, a couple of months later, he knew all of them, and sang them... Let's say... His way? I won't mess with his singing skills again!
